We Say Good Bye To A Great American Patriot
Ed Barnett, 68, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
Visitation will be held at Lunn’s Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, with Reggie Coe officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.
Ed Howard Barnett was born on August 2, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and was the son of James and Anna Kathrine Barnett. Ed Attended school in Wichita Falls public school until 1955 when he attended Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio Texas. In 1958-59 Ed served as a page in the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. He worked for Congressman Frank Ikard, House Speaker Sam Rayburn and then Majority Leader of the Senate, Lyndon Johnson. Ed graduated from High School in May of 1959 from the Capitol Page School in Washington, D.C. His high school diploma was signed by then President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Ed attended Midwestern State University of Texas studying Business Administration and Economics. Ed began working for the Wichita Falls Times and Record News, a family owned business, in 1961. He worked in every department in the newspaper over the next several years and ended his career with the newspaper in 1981 while serving as Advertising Director and Vice President of the newspapers.
Ed was Vice President of the Wichita Falls Jaycees and of the Northwest Texas Council of the Boy Scouts during those years and was also active with the Board of Commerce and Industry.
Ed was one of the Founders of the Loving Care Christian Maternity Home in Wichita Falls and served on the Board of Directors of that organization for many years. He most recently wrote a daily online column “Wake Up America” for www.agapemovement.com that expressed his love for his country and his passion for politics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jettie Ann Barnett, Grandparents, Rhea and Kathleen Howard and Paul and Leta Barnett.
Survivors include wife, Glenice Barnett; son, Blake Barnett of Fort Worth; daughter, Mindy Lowack and husband Tommy of Colleyville, Texas; two grandsons, Carter Rhea and Dillon Lee Lowack; and sisters, Kathie Barnett of Superior, Colo., and Kaye Barnett of Victoria, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
