Politics
The political process is not difficult. You can make sure your government stays true to its roots and truly represents your interests by taking the following actions:
Step One: Every Citizen Can Register To Vote. If you have not registered to vote in your community, do so. Registrars will ask all new voters for identification in order to make sure that your vote is secure and is not diluted by efforts of any individual or group to unlawfully influence the vote on any public official or public issue. AGAPE supports all means of properly identifying lawful voters in order to safeguard the integrity of your American voting system and the power of YOUR VOTE.
Step Two: Check Out the Political Parties. At the local level, most communities have branches of the major political parties and they can be located in the phone book, and on numerous websites. Though some local city and district elections are non-partisan, and most elections provide for write-in possibility, to be successful in most elections, candidates must run in a party sponsored caucus or primary election, governed in accordance with the local election laws and the rules of that political party. You can learn more about the candidates and their stands on various issues by consulting web sites of voter groups like the League of Women Voters. You should also read the platform of the party with which the person is affiliated. The platform is an outline of the party’s positions on numerous issues and a candidate will not receive the party’s support if he or she does not agree to support it. It could contain some positions on public policy which are not acceptable to you. AGAPE will assist you in your quest to examine the position of candidates on important issues and whether they are true to the Constitution, laws, and ethical principles put in place by America’s founders.
Step Three: Attend Caucuses and Conventions. To insure that your rights are protected and your government remains responsible, you must follow up your vote with action. All persons who legally voted in your primary election precinct are eligible to attend the Party Caucus or Precinct Convention. To ensure that your voice is heard and is not drowned out by small special interest groups trying to use your party to promote policies not compatible with traditional interpretations of the American Constitution and Bill of Rights, you should attend the caucus or precinct convention of the party. Check with the party headquarters in advance, or ask the precinct election judges for the time and place of the caucus or convention in your community. Make sure that other voters who feel as you do go to their caucus or convention so that you have a majority wanting to preserve traditional American values and can select delegates who will attend State and National Party Conventions and approve platform positions which are consistent with the principles originally adopted by our forefathers. An organized and concerted effort by many concerned voters at the local level can reverse bad political policies over night, so don’t give up. AGAPE will help you learn how to influence your government through the lawful political process.
Step Four: Preserve Election Integrity. Unfortunately some people or groups do not want your vote to count and may attempt to violate party rules or government election laws in order to accomplish their purposes. You must act to preserve the power of each lawful ballot by reporting such activity to election officials as soon as you discover it. Millions of people in other countries long to be Americans because we believe in the rule of law, which protects the individual rights of all citizens, regardless of wealth, social position, or political affiliation.
